Cagney and Kelly

This is my new blog!  It’s generally going to be about whatever strikes my fancy.  I’ll tell you about the name of the blog, Cagney and Kelly.  And I’m sorry if you’re a Cagney & Lacey fan.  Like reallllly sorry.

James “Jimmy” Cagney happens to be my favorite actor.  He’s up in the header with Margaret Lindsay for the movie G Men.  Though he won an Academy Award for his musical talent in Yankee Doodle Dandy, it was his tough guy performances that really stood out.  Some of his movies are:  The Public Enemy, G Men, Angels with Dirty Faces, The Roaring Twenties, and White Heat.  If you’ve never seen one, I would try The Public Enemy first (though G Men is my favorite).

The Public Enemy is an early movie where he won the leading role because he simply was brilliant.  And if you’re watching a bunch of these movies thinking, “Is that Humphrey Bogart?  Why is he playing second to Jimmy Cagney?”  Yes, Cagney was *that* good.

Grace Kelly aka Princess Grace is my favorite actress.  She was one of Alfred Hitchcock’s favorites, and she worked with excellent stars like Clark Gable, Jimmy Stewart, and Cary Grant.  Was she the best?  Not at all.  But yes, she was extremely attractive.  And Philadelphia’s Kelly Drive is named after her brother, so what’s not to like there?  She was in Rear Window, To Catch a Thief, and she won an Academy Award for her role in The Country Girl.  I would watch Rear Window or To Catch a Thief first, as they are my two favorites.

Now you know why I chose Cagney and Kelly for the title of this blog, and knowing is half the battle!
